Panama Canal Transit by Ship

Experience the Canal from the Water

While the Miraflores Visitor Center lets you watch ships transit the canal from above, a canal transit by ship puts you on the water. You board a vessel and actually go through the lock chambers alongside the massive container ships — feeling the water level rise and fall around you as you transit between the Pacific and Gatun Lake.

Most operators offer a partial transit (one set of locks, about 4–6 hours) rather than a full ocean-to-ocean transit. The partial transit typically goes from the Pacific side through Miraflores and Pedro Miguel locks into Gatun Lake, with a bus return to the city.

This is a bucket-list experience for many visitors, but it runs on limited dates. Go Beyond can arrange this when availability aligns with your travel dates.
