Shevet Ahim
Shevet Ahim is Panama's largest and most prominent Sephardi synagogue, founded in 1933 by the growing community of Syrian and Lebanese Jewish immigrants. It remains the heart of Sephardi religious and cultural life in Panama City.
History
Established in 1933, Shevet Ahim was created to serve the Sephardi Jews who had emigrated from Syria and Lebanon in the early 20th century. The synagogue became the central institution of Panama's Sephardi community, which today makes up the majority of Panama's approximately 15,000 Jews. The congregation maintains traditional Sephardi liturgy and customs, and has been instrumental in preserving Sephardi heritage in Central America.
