Panama's Highland Escape
Boquete is a small mountain town nestled in the Chiriqui highlands at 1,200 meters (3,900 feet) above sea level. With temperatures averaging 65–75°F year-round, it's a refreshing escape from Panama City's tropical heat. The town is surrounded by cloud forests, coffee plantations, and the imposing Volcan Baru—Panama's highest peak at 3,475 meters (11,400 feet).
Known as the "Valley of Eternal Spring," Boquete has become a favorite for nature lovers, birdwatchers (the resplendent quetzal lives here), and coffee connoisseurs drawn to some of the world's highest-rated Geisha coffee beans.

Things to Do in Boquete
Coffee Plantation Tours
Boquete produces some of the world's most sought-after coffee, including the legendary Geisha varietal that sells for $100+ per pound. Visit working fincas to learn the bean-to-cup process, walk through shade-grown plantations, and taste freshly roasted coffee at the source. Finca Lerida, a historic coffee estate, also offers boutique lodging surrounded by cloud forest.
Volcan Baru
Panama's tallest mountain offers a challenging hike to the summit—the only point in the Americas where you can see both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans simultaneously on a clear day. The sunrise hike starts at midnight and takes 5–6 hours up. Alternatively, drive partway up for a less strenuous experience.
Cloud Forest Hiking
The Quetzal Trail (Sendero Los Quetzales) winds through pristine cloud forest between Boquete and Cerro Punta. One of Central America's best hikes for birdwatching, with a chance to spot the resplendent quetzal and hundreds of other species.
Hot Springs
Natural hot springs fed by volcanic activity are scattered around the Boquete area. The most accessible are the Caldera Hot Springs, about 30 minutes from town, where you can soak in natural pools surrounded by jungle.
White Water Rafting
The Chiriqui and Chiriqui Viejo rivers offer Class III and IV rapids for rafting and kayaking. Multiple operators run half-day trips departing from Boquete.
